Harrison James

My passion for woodworking started during my childhood. I remember long days helping my father with projects around the house. I remember the dining room table he made for us all, and the small rocking chair he made for my younger sister. I believe that this was the spark that ignited my passion for woodworking.

After leaving school, I began my career working as an apprentice cabinet maker. Here I learnt the core fundamentals of traditional woodworking, using age-old techniques combined with modern machinery.

I learnt from some of the best craftsmen in the area and feel immensely grateful and privileged to have learnt from them. Without these people taking the time and care into my learning, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Following the successful completion of my apprenticeship, I won the ‘British Woodworking Federation Apprentice of the Year Award’ in London, as well as the ‘Third Year Apprentice Award’ from the Institute of Carpenters, and finally the ‘Construction Apprentice of the Year Award’ at the North Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards.

I owe these awards and all of my skills to the people that taught me and the craftsmen that came before us.

After nearly a decade working in the industry, one thing that has always frustrated me is companies cutting corners in the name of saving costs—usually without passing these savings on to the customer. That’s why I started Harrison James, with an aim of delivering woodworking without compromises.

I hope that when choosing me to help you realise your vision, my passion for woodworking is obvious and you have full trust that I will deliver to the very best of my abilities. That is why all furniture and interior items have a lifetime guarantee for the materials and workmanship, and all exterior joinery has a limited guarantee based on material choice.
